Sophia has a really strong resume and she is sure to get a new job. But will it be her dream job and will she get a high-enough salary?
Writing the perfect resume is not only about getting a job, but getting the right one with the best possible compensation. Lets help improve this example CV together!
Lets start by zooming out and looking at the formatting of Sophia's resume. These are my two key takeaways: (i) It looks very professional and (ii) the sections are well balanced and pristine.
The choice of template together with the length of each description, the number of skills listed, and the almost perfect fit of the selected sections on the page makes this a top 5% professional-looking resume.
Note further that Sophia has chosen a black color scheme, which help keep the CV professional, but the question is if it is worth it. Her resume is already top-notch formatting-wise, so why not go with a dark red or dark teal color. Choosing the right color can help your CV stand out a lot. Sophia's resume summary is very strong. It is both concise and comprehensive at the same time, which is very impressive.
Note also how she combines the summary and skills sections in a way that shows that she is both technical (python, SQL, data analysis) and customer oriented ("communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical clients and stakeholders").
Sophia's experience section tells a story of a person who is not only a skilled problem solver, but also a leader. She seems to be an employee that would take initiative when needed and ensure that the project progresses with speed and quality.
A tiny improvement to her work-experience section would be to remove two instances of the word "system" (it becomes a bit too repetive). But overall, this is an almost perfectly written section.
The education section is also well written, but I do think that she has placed her two degrees in the wrong order. Most often you should place the most relevant, most recent, or highest education first in tour education section.
It might be that the "Computer Science" degree is more relevant for the position that Sophia is applying to, but since the "Business Administration" degree is both more recent and a higher degree she should place it first. Read more about the education section here.
Sophia has added a references section to her resume with the text "Available on request". This is quite standard, even though I prefer to write "References available on request".
Note also how the addition of the references section makes the formatting of the resume really beautiful.
