Example: Elijah's doctor CV
Elijah has a resume that is sure to get him a new job, but still there are some major improvements to be made. Follow along!
Doctor CV — summary section
The summary is the core of the resume; it is here that Elijah should win over the recruiter. But why then is his summary so short? It measures to only two small sentences and he did not even mention that he is an excellent communicator in both English and Spanish (see Elijah's skills section). A better summary could look like this:
Experienced doctor with a passion for providing exceptional patient care, skilled in diagnosis, treatment, and management of a wide range of medical conditions. Strong communicator with the ability to convey complex medical information to patients and their families in a clear and friendly manner. Fluent in both English and Spanish, with a proven track record of effectively communicating with diverse patient populations. Dedicated to creating a patient-centered environment that prioritizes empathy and compassion in all interactions.
By showing off his key strenghts already in the summary Elijah ensures that the recruiter will read it. Remember, most recruiters do not even read the whole resume, so make sure to include what is important at the top half of the page. Have a look here to learn more about the summary section.

Doctor CV — experience section
Elijah has placed the work-experience section on the top (just below the summary) which is perfect. Because remember, if you have relevant work experience, then that goes on top of your education (read more about the experience section here)
As a recruiter I would be very satisfied with what I read in his experience section; there is nothing of importantance to improve. A tiny thing to fix would be to slightly reduce the word count of the description for the job at "XYZ Hospital". As it stands now, the more relevant current position at "ABC Medical Center" has a shorter description, which is a bit strange (see above).
Doctor CV — education section
The education section does what it is supposed to do for Elijah's resume: it concisely shows that he has the required educations. Also, the descriptions of the educations are of the appropriate size.
As a bonus Elijah has a certificate in Medical Spanish. Such knowledge is almost priceless. As an example, about 13% of the US population are primarily Spanish speakers.
Doctor CV — skills section
The skills section of Elijah's CV tells a story of a doctor who cares a lot about the patient, makes the correct diagnosis, and communicates in the best way possible with the patient. The item "Skilled in various medical procedures and techniques" is quite unnecessary and can be removed.
Note however that the formatting of the skills section is a bit awkward, with an annoying line break and more lines of text in the right column than in the left (see above). This could easily be fixed by choosing another template. To read more about template selection, have a look here.
