Olivia has a good CV, but it is not perfect! Lets analyze it together and learn how to write the perfect CV.
Olivia's summary is very professional, which makes sense since she is applying for a position as an accountant; a job where attention for detail and trustworthiness is key.
A good way of making her summary a bit more light-hearted could be to start off with something like:
I'm not just detail-oriented, I'm obsessed with details!
With 5+ years of experience...
But in the end, the summary should showcase who you are as an employee, so stay true to yourself.
Olivia has placed the skills section at the top of her CV (well, just below the summary section that is). Personally I prefer applications where the working experience is highlighted more, ie placed on top. I consider a proven track record more important than a list of skills.
But this is subjective! There is no strict right or wrong with the section ordering of your resume (read more here about ordering of sections).
One thing that Olivia could definitely improve with her work-experience section is to make the description of her current and previous jobs a bit more consise.
Remember, the recruiter spends only a few minutes per CV, so you really have to get your most important parts stand out fast.
As an example, Olivia could re-write her description for her current job as follows:
Manage month-end close, analyze financial statements, oversee AP/AR, perform bank reconciliations and journal entries, prepare budgets/forecasts with cross-functional teams, lead tax return preparation, and coordinate with auditors.
And similar for the previous job at "XYZ Company". Make it a bit shorter.
Olivia's education section tells the recruiter what needs to known: she has the appropriate education.
It is sometimes tempting to write long descriptions about what we learned in school, but it is seldom relevant. Learn more about the education section here.
